Infrabel Bascoup workshop

The Bascoup workshop is located in Chapelle-lez-Herlaimont, at the heart of the Charleroi-Nivelles-Mons triangle. Originally built in 1912, it is the only workshop in Belgium producing track devices. Infrabel wanted to increase production and provide more comfortable and safer working conditions for workers on site.

The workshops had to be upgraded for the mounting of point switches on concrete sleepers of up to 50 metres, which will gradually replace existing wooden sleepers. Bascoup currently produces both types of sleepers.

New access roads and a storm water retention basin were also included in the plan.

The two new lines, which are 200 metres long and 25 metres wide, were inaugurated on Monday. According to Infrabel, they are more ergonomic and comfortable. The current pace of work enables the Bascoup workshop to build one and a half assemblies per day.
